Pour avoir un peu d'ombre nous avons décidé de faire une couverture d'osier sur une partie du toit. La structure en bois vient d'être poser. Dans quelques jours quand les panneaux d'osier fabriqués sur mesure par un artisan local seront prêts la couverture sera finalisée.

W celu ochrony przed słońcem zdecydowaliśmy się zrobić przekrycie z wikliny na części dachu. Drewniana konstrukcja została zainstalowana w zeszłym tygodniu. Za kilka dni gdy panele z wikliny, zrobione na wymiar przez miejscowego rzemieślnika, będa gotowe, zadaszenie zostanie ukończone.

To get a bit of shade we decided to make a wicker canopy on a part of the roof. The wooden structure has been built last week. In a few days when the custom wicker panels made by a local craftsman will be ready the cover will be finalised.

Un escalier en acier a été réalisé pour accéder la cuisine (voir cuisine). Les marches ont été faits en bois peint en bleu comme la majorité de la menuiserie dans la maison.

A steel staircase was made to enter the kitchen (see kitchen). The treads were made of wood painted blue like the majority of the woodwork in the house.

And here is our first guest ... A gull came to rest on the chimney. As our house is within 200 meters from the ocean it is not very surprising that birds feel lke home.

Nasz pierwszy gość.. Mewa, która zdecydowała się przycupnąć na kominie. Biorąc pod uwagę, że nasz dom znajduje się mniej niż 200 metrów od oceanu, nie dziwne, że ptaki czują się tu u siebie.   

Et voici notre premier invité... Un goéland qui est venu se poser sur la cheminée. Vu que notre maison se trouve à moins de 200 mètres de l'océan il n'est pas très etonnant que d'oiseaux se sentent chez eux.

Gulls are not the only ones coming to us. Often when there is nobody on the roof you can hear bird songs (those birds avoid being seen). We hope that they will not disappear with the end of the works ...

Mewy nie są jedynymi ptakami przylatującymi do nas. Często kiedy na dachu nie ma nikogo na niższych kondygnacjach można uslyszeć spiew ptaków (te nie pozwalają się podgladać). Mamy nadzieję, że ptaki nie znikną z końcem remontów..

Les goélands ne sont pas les seuls à venir chez nous. Souvent, quand il n'y a personne sur le toit on entend de chants d'oiseaux (ceux ne se laissent pas regarder). Nous espérons que qu'ils ne vont pas disparaître avec la fin des travaux...

Nous avons la chance d'avoir un vrai puits à la maison. Il est intégré dans un des murs du patio au rez-de-chaussée et il fait environ 20 mètres de profondeur. Par conséquent, l'eau qui vient du puits est très fraîche.

We are lucky to have a real well at home. It is integrated in one of the walls of the patio on the ground floor and is about 20 meters deep. Therefore, the water that comes from the well is very cool.

Lors de l'achat de la maison le puits n'était past très présentable. Nous avons pensé que notre puits méritait une allure plus valorisante. Nous avons donc décidé de le décaper et voir ce que cela allait donner.

Upon purchase of the house the well wasn't really presentable. We thought that our well deserves look a little more rewarding. We decided to strip it and see what it will give.

Après avoir décapé les enduits et les carrelages nous nous sommes rendus compte que la partie inférieure ne pouvait pas rester apparente car elle est constituée d'un mélange de briques et de pierres. Nous allons la couvrir d'une mosaïque de carreaux de terre cuite. La partie supérieure pourra rester apparente après quelques réparations aux pierres.

After we have stripped the plasters and tiles we realised that the bottom part should not remain visible as it consists of a mixture of bricks and stones. We're going to cover it with a mosaic of ceramic tiles. The upper part will remain visible after few repairs of stones.

Lors des travaux nous avons découvert deux "puits" secs, un dans la chambre à côté du puits (c'est en même temps la pièce avoisinant l'ancienne cuisine), et un autre dans la petite pièce au-dessous de l'escalier. Nous pensons qu'ils ont peut-être été utilisés à l'origine comme silos de stockage de blé.

During the works we have discovered two dry "wells", one in the room next to the well (at the same time it is the room next to the old kitchen), and another one in the small room below the stairs . We think they may have been originally used as storage silos for wheat.

Podczas robót odkryliśmy dwie suche "studnie", jedną w pokoju obok studni (równocześnie jest to pokój, który znajduje się obok starej kuchni) i drugą w małym pomieszczeniu pod schodami. Wydaje nam się, że mogły być orginalnie używane jako silosy do przechowywania zboża.

Chwilę po tym jak kupiliśmy dom przyszły ulewne deszcze. Bardzo szybko ściana od strony Meczetu zaczęła być wilgotna. Wiedzieliśmy, że poprzedni właściciele próbowali zaradzić problemowi (raczej bezskutecznie). Jeszcze przed deszczami odcinek ściany pod belką nie wygladał dobrze.. Zacieki były widoczne na całej wysokości muru, a na podłodze znajdował się kawałek betonowej wylewki zrobiony przez poprzednich właścicieli.

Juste après l'achat de la maison il a beaucoup plu. Très rapidement le mur du côté de la Mosquée est devenu humide. Nous savions que les propriètaires précédants ont essayé de resoudre ce problème (plutôt sans succès). Même avant les pluies cette partie du mur n'avait pas l'air sain... De taches étaient visibles sur toute la hauteur de mur et sur le sol il y avait un morceau de chape en béton fait par les propriètaires précédents. 

Just after we bought the house it rained a lot. Very quickly the wall on the Mosque side has become wet. We knew that the previous owner tried to solve this problem (rather unsuccessfully). Even before the rains this part of the wall did not look healthy ... Spots were visible on the entire height of the wall and on the floor there was a piece of concrete screed made by the previous owner.

Postanowiliśmy sprawdzić co mogło być przyczyną naszych problemow. Zaczęliśmy od zejścia na dach Meczetu i okazało się, że woda z niewielkiego odcinka dachu spływa w naszym kierunku ("od zawsze" jak się okazało później). Następnie skuliśmy tynki i kawał betonu, które blokowały dojście do historycznej rury spustowej zrobionej w części z ceramicznych kształtek (Safi słynie z ceramiki) a w części z plastikowej rury. Kształtki w większości były uszkodzone a plastikowa rura była pełna dziur.. Nie dziwne więc, że w czasie deszczów ściana robiła się mokra...  

Nous avons décidé de vérifier ce que pouvait être à l'origine de nos problèmes. Nous avons commencé par descendre sur le toit de la Mosquée et nous avons vu que l'eau d'une partie de la toiture coule vers notre maison ("depuis toujours" comme nous avons compris plus tard). Ensuite, nous avons décapé les enduits et enlevé un morceau de béton qui caché une descente d'eau historique faite en partie de pièces en céramique (Safi est connu de poterie) et en partie d'un tuyau en plastique. La majorité des pièces en céramique était abimée et le tuyau en plastique avait plein de trous.. Il est donc normal que pendant la pluie le mur devenait humide...

We decided to see what could be the cause of our problems. First we went down onto the Mosque roof and we found that water from a small part of the roof flows in our direction ("always" as it turned out later). Then we stripped the plasters and a piece of concrete, which blocked access to the historic drain pipe that was partly made of ceramic fittings (Safi is famous for its pottery) and partly of plastic pipe. Majority of the ceramic pieces were damaged and the plastic pipe was full of holes .. It is normal that during rains the wall became wet ...

Zainstalowaliśmy nową rurę spustową a następnie zamknęliśmy otwór w ścianie. Odpływ wody na dachu Meczetu trzeba będzie jeszcze uszczelnić.

Les travaux avancent bien, les maçons finalisent les enduits à la chaux au premier étage. De plus, les changements dans le patio commencent à être visibles. On vient d'installer la nouvelle balustrade en fer forgé qui remplace le mur en béton (voir patio I). Ce n'est pas tout à fait fini (rouille, fixation, peinture), mais cela donne déjà une idée du futur patio.

Nowa żelazna balustrada została zamontowana po zburzeniu betonowego muru (zobacz atrium I). Trzeba będzie jeszcze trochę popracować (rdza, mocowanie, farba), ale można sobie już wyobrazić jak będzie wyglądało przyszłe patio.  

Works are progressing well, the masons are finalising the lime coatings on the first floor. Moreover, changes in the patio are already visible. We have just installed a new wrought iron railing that replaced the concrete wall (see patio I). It isn't finished yet (rust, fixing, painting), but it already gives an idea of the future patio.

La marquise couvrant du patio a été installée cette semaine. Nous avons cherché une solution qui empêcherait la pluie d'entrer à l'intérieur de la maison (trop de dégâts sur les murs, etc...), qui serait amovible et qui laisserait passer la lumière.

Markiza przekrywająca atrium została zamontowana w zeszłym tygodniu. Szukaliśmy przekrycia, które by chroniło przed deszczem (zbyt wiele tynków zniszczonych, itp...), było ruchome, i przepuszczało światło.  

The canopy covering the patio was installed this week. We looked for a solution that would prevent rain from entering into the house (too many damages on the walls, etc...) that would be removable and that would allow light to pass trough.

Having stripped the plasters and tiles we have begun a new phase - bathrooms. For each room (in total 5) we will provide a small room with a washbasin, a toilet and a shower. After placing the drain system, a screed has been poured and new partition walls were built. The partitions stop much lower than wooden floor because it is really important for us to not to damage it. Anecdote : basically, we have planed to build partitions as drywalls, but we realised that this type of building material remains largely inaccessible in Morocco. We have therefore went for a terracotta masonry light enough to not to burden the floors.

Après avoir décapé les enduits et les carrelages nous avons commencé une nouvelle phase - salles de douches. Pour chaque chambre (au total 5) nous avons prévu une petite pièce avec un lavabo, un WC et une douche. Après avoir placé l'égouttage, une chape a été coulée et ensuite de nouvelles cloisons ont été construites. Les cloisons s'arrêtent nettement plus bas que les planchers en bois car il est vraiment important pour nous de ne pas les abîmer. Petite anecdote : à la base, nous avions prévu de construire les cloisons en plaques de plâtre, mais nous nous sommes rendu compte que ce type de matériau de construction reste pratiquement inaccessible au Maroc. Nous avons finalement opté pour une maçonnerie en terre cuite suffisamment légère pour ne pas alourdir les planchers du premier étage.

Po skuciu tynków i płytek ceramicznych rozpoczęliśmy kilka dni temu nowy etap - łazienki. Dla każdego pokoju (a jest ich sumie 5) przewidzieliśmy niewielki lokal zawierajacy umywalkę, toaletę i prysznic. Po położeniu rur kanalizacyjnych, wylaliśmy wylewkę a następnie wznieśliśmy ścianki działowe. Ścianka kończy się znacznie poniżej drewnianego stropu ponieważ zależy nam na tym, żeby drewniane stropy zachowaly się nienaruszone. Mała anegdota : pierwotnie zakładaliśmy, że wybudujemy ścianki działowe z płyt gipsowo-kartonowych, ale jak się okazało tego typu materiał budowlany pozostaje na dzień dzisiejszy nieosiągalny w Maroku... Pozostaliśmy więc na pustakach ceramicznych wystarczająco lekkich, żeby nie przeciążać stropów pierwszego piętra.

Nasz dom jest tradycyjnie zwrócony w kierunku wewnętrznego dziedzińca - patio. Wszystkie pomieszczenia domu komunikują z dziedzińcem, a na zewnątrz, w stronę ulicy, skierowane jest dziś tylko jedno małe okno.

Notre maison est traditionnellement orientée vers l'intérieur. Toutes les pièces de la maison sont ouvertes vers le patio. Aujourd'hui, il y n'a qu'une petite fenêtre qui donne vers l'extérieur - vers la rue.

Our house is traditionally oriented towards the interior. All rooms of the house are open to the patio. Today, there is only a small window that looks toward the street.

Drugie okno "zewnętrzne" zwrócone w kierunku Meczetu jest obecnie zamurowane. Odkryliśmy je skuwając tynki na piętrze i postanowiliśmy go na razie nie otwierać.

Betonowy mur wokół dziedzińca na piętrze został zbudowany mniej więcej 10 lat temu, żeby zastąpić oryginalną balustradę, która była prawdopodobnie drewniano - metalowa i zamocowana na ceramicznych kształtkach, które zachowały się do dzisiaj (pozostałości podobnych balustrad znajdują się z okolicznych domach). Mur zostanie zastąpiony metalową balustradą, którą udało nam się odkupić od lokalnego sprzedawcy. Kawałki starej balustrady są wystarczająco długie, żeby zastąpić nimi betonową konstrukcję. Odkupiona balustrada jest wykonana w tradycyjny kuty sposób (dziś prawie wszystko jest spawane w Safi) i jest w dość zardzewiałym stanie... Trzeba ją bedzie odrestaurować, dociąć do wymiarów naszego atrium i zamontować na drewnianym stelażu.

La maçonnerie en béton autour du patio à l'étage a été construite il y a plus ou moins 10 ans dans le but de remplacer le garde-corps original. Celui-ci était probablement en bois et acier, placé sur les pièces en céramique qui ont été conservés jusqu'à aujourd'hui (des vestiges de garde-corps similaires se trouvent dans les maisons avoisinantes). Le mur en béton sera remplacé par un garde-corps en fer forgé que nous avons acheté à un vendeur local. Les pièces de l'ancien garde-corps sont suffisamment longues pour remplacer la maçonnerie en béton. L'ancien garde-corps est fait de manière traditionnelle (actuellement, presque tout est soudé à Safi) et demande une restauration. Il faudra éliminer la rouille, le raccourcir pour que ses dimensions correspondent à notre patio et le placer dans un cadre en bois.

The concrete masonry around the patio on the first floor was built around 10 years ago to replace the original railing that was probably made of wood and steel and was placed on the ceramic pieces that have been conserved until today (remains of similar railings are preserved in the neighbourhood). The concrete wall will be replaced by a railing wrought iron that we purchased from a local seller. Parts of the old railing are long enough to replace the concrete masonry. The old railing was made in the traditional way (currently, almost everything is welded in Safi) and request a restoration. We will remove rust, shorten dimensions in order to fit them to our patio and put them in a wooden frame.

Nous avons décidé de transformer une partie de la toiture en cuisine (un peu comme tout le monde dans la ville). Cette partie de la toiture est déjà séparée du toit prinicipal - elle se trouve eu plus haut et elle est pratiquement fermée de quatre côtés (les murs font +/- 1,70m).

We decided to convert a part of the roof into a kitchen (like everyone else in the city). This part of the roof is already separated from the main roof  - it is located a bit higher and is almost closed on four sides (walls are +/- 1.70m).

Zdecydowaliśmy zrobić kuchnię na dachu (tak jak wiekszość mieszkanców miasta). Cześć dachu, która będzie zajęta przez kuchnię, jest naturalnie oddzielona od głównego dachu - jest położona wyżej i zamknięta praktycznie z czterech stron (ściany mają +/- 1,70m).

Il fallait ajouter quelques blocs de maçonnerie pour avoir un minimum d'hauteur (2,10m) à intérieur de la future cuisine. Nous avons ensuit fait couler une dalle en béton pour faire le toit et nous avons posé les châssis en bois.

We had to add some masonry blocks to reach a minimum height inside of the future kitchen (2.10 m). Then we have made a concrete slab in order to create the roof and we have laid wooden doors and windows.

Trzeba było dołożyć kilka bloków betonowych, żeby uzyskać wysokość akceptowalną (2,10m) w środku pomieszczenia. Następnie, dach został zrobiony z płyty żelbetowej i drewniana stolarka została zamontowana.

Voici la première couche de peinture. On aime la couleur, mais à l'intérieur de la maison on utilisera une peinture un peu plus claire (comme existante).

Here is the first layer of paint. We love the color, but inside the house we will use a slightly lighter paint (like existing).

Ce n'est qu'un (bon) début. On doit toujours ajouter un escalier pour monter la différence de 50 cm, poser de carrelages, équiper la cuisine...

This is only a (good) beginning. We still have to add stairs to fill in the difference of 50 cm, lay tiles, furnish the kitchen ...

Notre cheminée qui va, par ailleurs, accueillir les conduits de l'eau et de l'égouttage, nécessitait quelques réparations.

The staircase leading from the first floor to the roof has a wooden structure. The staircase creates a very special ceiling in the stairway located between the lower ground floor and the floor (photo 2 and 3). Unfortunately, the stairs leading to the roof are quite steep, narrow and worn - especially in their central part. We thought they would have to be completely redone to improve the situation, but we have found another solution!

L'escalier qui mène du premier étage à la toiture a une structure en bois (d'origine). Cet escalier crée un plafond très particulier dans l'escalier qui se trouve plus bas entre le rez-de-chaussée et l'étage (photo 2 et 3). Malheuresement, l'escalier vers la toiture est assez raide. Les marches sont hautes, étroites et usées (surtout dans leur partie centrale). Nous avons pensé de les refaire complètement pour améliorer la situation, mais nous avons trouvé une autre solution !

Schody prowadzące z pierwszego piętra na dach mają starą drewnianą konstrukcję. Dzięki tej konstrukcji schody znajdujące się poniżej (z parteru na piętro) mają ciekawy strop (zdjecie 2 i 3). Niestety schody na dach są dosyć strome. Stopnie są wysokie, wąskie i schodzone (w szczególności w środkowej części). Wydawało nam się, że jedynym rozwiązaniem żeby poprawić tą sytuację jest zrobienie całkowicie nowych schodów, ale udało nam sie znaleźć inne rozwiązanie !

We added a wooden nose to every step to enlarge its depth. The worn steps will be equalised with the new level created by the wooden nose using lime mortar. The solution seems to be effective and, most importantly, we were able to keep the original wooden structure!

Nous avons ajouté des nez en bois à chaque marche pour enlargir son profondeur. Les marches usées seront égalisés avec le nouveau niveau créé par des nez en bois à l'aide du mortier à la chaux. La solution semble être efficace et, le plus important, nous avons pu garder la structure en bois !
